- All tests & assignments: The default option.
- Tests only: The course score is the average of a user's scores in all their passed tests (i.e., Assignments not included).
- Units | choose: The course score is the average of a learner's scores in your specified units (tests, assignments, SCORM, ILT) (i.e., the ones they’ve passed) or you can add weights to specific tests and assignments.
How to assign different weights to tests and assignments of a course:
If you want specific tests or assignments to be more important to the overall score than other tests or assignments, TalentLMS lets you add a different “weight” to each unit.
Choose Units | choose and select at least 2 units (1) to reveal Set unit weights (2).
Each unit can be assigned a weight value from 0 to 20 (3).
Select the weight value for each unit and click Save (5) to update your score calculating settings.
To get the final score, the points that each unit awards are multiplied by the weight you chose. The sum of the recalculated score is then divided by the overall sum of all unit weights (6).
This is the equation used, where T = test, A = assignment and W = weight
Weighted Average Score = (T1×W1 + T2×W2 + A3×W3) / (W1 + W2 + W3)
Click Save (7) to update your course settings.
Here’s a quick example:
You choose two specific tests and one assignment.
You set the weight units to be:
T1 → 1 (W1)
T2 → 2 (W2)
A3 → 1 (W3)
Total = 4 (W1 + W2 + W3)
The learner scores 90% and 80% percent in Tests, and he is graded 100% for the assignment.
The average would be (90*1 + 80*2 + 100*1) / 4 = 87,5%
