TalentLMS allows you to temporarily deactivate a branch without permanently deleting it.
Deactivation is reversible, so you can activate the branch again whenever needed while preserving its settings, users, and course assignments.
| Note: Groups cannot be deactivated. If you no longer need a group, you can only delete it. To learn more, see What happens if you delete a group or branch in TalentLMS. |
A. How to deactivate a branch
To deactivate a branch:
1. Sign in to your TalentLMS account as an Administrator and go to Home > Branches (1).
2. Click Edit (2) next to the branch you want to deactivate.
3. On the Info (3) tab, under Identity, turn off the Active (4) toggle.
4. Click Save (5) to apply your changes.
The branch is now inactive.
B. What happens when you deactivate a branch?
When a branch is deactivated, its settings and existing associations are preserved. However, deactivation can affect how its users access your portal and how its courses appear in the main course catalog.
Users and restricted branch access
Deactivating a branch does not delete or deactivate the users associated with it.
If the deactivated branch is a restricted branch, users who belong to it will gain access to the main domain, provided they do not also belong to another restricted branch.
If a user belongs to another restricted branch, their access will continue to be determined by that branch.
Their existing account, course enrollments, progress, and training data remain unchanged.
Courses
Courses assigned to the branch are not deleted or deactivated when the branch is deactivated. Their course content, enrollments, and Learner progress are preserved.
Main course catalog visibility
Deactivating a branch can affect whether its courses appear in the main course catalog.
If Hide branch courses from the main course catalog is enabled under Account & Settings, courses that belong to an active branch are hidden from the main course catalog.
When a branch is deactivated, a course that was assigned only to that branch can become visible in the main course catalog.
If the course also belongs to another active branch, it will remain hidden from the main course catalog while Hide branch courses from the main course catalog is enabled.
For more information, see How to hide branch courses from the main catalog in TalentLMS.
C. How to reactivate a branch
To reactivate a branch:
1. Go to Home > Branches and click Edit next to the inactive branch.
2. On the Info tab, turn on the Active toggle.
3. Click Save.
The branch becomes active again with its existing settings, users, and course assignments.
| Note: You can't reactivate a branch while your account has more active branches than your plan allows. This can happen if you're a legacy customer who was migrated to a new plan. First bring your active branches below your plan's limit, then reactivate. |
