Through discussions, TalentLMS helps you build a sense of community across your portal. To make your content more interactive and engaging, TalentLMS lets you embed your discussions into your courses as individual units.
Here’s how to create discussion units in a few steps:
1. Sign in to your TalentLMS account as an Instructor (1).
2. From the Quick actions widget, click Add discussion (2).
3. On the New discussion page, select “Only specific users can see this topic” and pick a course (3). Only users associated with the specified course will be able to view and participate in this discussion.
4. In the Subject field, type a title (4) about the topic of your discussion.
5. In the Message text area, type a description (5) to prompt discussion.
6. If necessary, upload an external file to attach to your message (6). Users who reply to the topic can also add attachments. The maximum file size for attachments is 20MB.
7. Click Post to publish your new discussion topic (7). Your discussion is now live.
8. Open your discussion topic from the list of all discussions and copy the URL of your new topic (8).
Now, let’s embed the discussion in a course:
1. Go to Courses, hover over the course you picked earlier (see Step 3 above) and click Edit (1). The course editor page will open.
2. Click Add and select Standard Content > iFrame (2).
3. In the Web address (URL) field, paste the URL of your topic (3) (see Step 8 above) and then click anywhere on your screen(outside of the URL field) to embed the discussion.
Note: If you access your portal through a secured connection, make sure the iFrame URL is also secured (i.e., it has to be prefixed with https:// instead of http://). |
4. Add a name to your iFrame unit and any other information, if necessary. Don’t forget to publish your unit (4)!
Your users will now be able to access the discussion and leave comments as part of their TalentLMS course.
Note: Branches have separate branch-specific discussion forums nested under the branch URL. Topics posted within a branch are only visible to users who sign in through the branch URL. To access discussions posted on the main portal, users have to log in through the main URL (if they are allowed to). |
