This article explains how SCORM units behave in TalentLMS, what Learners should expect on desktop and mobile, and what to do if completion or progress does not save.
What happens when you open a SCORM unit
A SCORM unit launches course content in a player and reports progress back to the LMS while you move through the module. In many courses, completion is triggered by a specific final action, like reaching the last slide, submitting a final interaction, or selecting an Exit button. If that trigger is not reached, the unit can remain incomplete.
Desktop or laptop
1. Open the course and select the SCORM unit.
2. SCORM content can be configured to open embedded inside the page or in a pop-up window.
If the content opens embedded inside the page, wait a few seconds for it to fully load before interacting.
If the content opens in a pop-up window, select the option “Start unit” or “Resume unit” and keep that window open while the course is running.
Finish the module, then follow any final on-screen instructions, such as Exit, Finish, or Submit.
| Note: Some SCORM packages are designed to send completion data only when the SCORM window is closed. If Learners do not close the window at the end, the unit may stay incomplete. |
Mobile devices
Mobile performance can vary by device, OS version, network stability, and how the device handles background processing. For the most consistent experience, use the official mobile app where possible.
Android
Preferred method: Use the official TalentLMS mobile app.
- Open the app and go to the course.
- Tap the SCORM unit.
- Allow the unit to download before it starts.
- Keep the app open and in the foreground until you finish.
| Note: The mobile app supports SCORM, which is HTML5-based. SCORM that depends on third-party servers or hosted media may not work as expected in the app. |
iOS (iPhone and iPad)
For the best experience on iOS, use the official TalentLMS mobile app only.
- Open the app and go to the course.
- Allow the unit to download before it starts.
- Keep the course open and in the foreground until completion.
For best results on both Android & iOS:
- Avoid locking the screen or letting the device sleep.
- Avoid switching apps while the unit is running.
- Avoid changing networks while the unit is running.
- Use stable WiFi whenever possible.
Important notes for completion and progress
- Interact with all required elements and let videos finish, especially near the end of the module, since completion is often tied to specific final interactions.
- If the module includes an Exit, Finish, or Submit button, use it.
- If the module runs in a separate window, close it only after the module finishes and any final instructions are completed.
Troubleshooting potential issues
If you run into issues, e.g., the SCORM unit does not mark as complete, or progress does not save, try the checks below.
- Reopen the unit and navigate to the end, then repeat the expected completion action (for example, Exit, Finish, last slide, or final quiz submission).
- If you are on a mobile browser, switch to the TalentLMS app and keep it in the foreground until you finish.
- If the unit opens in a new window on the desktop, keep that window open for the full session and complete the final steps before closing it.
