TalentLMS lets you define how a specific question affects the overall grading of a test by assigning a different “weight” to each question.
Here’s how question weights work:
Each question can be assigned a weight value from 0 to 20. The points that each question awards (“1” if the answer is correct and “0” if it’s wrong) are multiplied by its weight. The sum of the recalculated question points is then divided by the sum of all question weights to give us the final grade:
Test Grade = (Q1×W1 + Q2×W2 + Q3×W3) / (W1 + W2 + W3)
Note: When a question is assigned a weight value of “0”, the answer doesn’t affect the final grade of the test in any way. |
Each question constitutes a percentage of the test, and by adjusting its weight, you can see how that percentage is altered.
Here’s a quick example:
We have a test with 3 questions. The questions have a value of 1, 2, and 1, respectively (i.e., question 2 awards twice the points awarded by questions 1 or 3).
If the answers to questions 1 and 3 are correct and the answer to question 2 is wrong, the test is graded:
Test Grade = (1×1 + 0×2 + 1×1) / (1 + 2 + 1) = 0,5 or 50%
How to assign different weights to the questions of a test:
1. Sign in to your TalentLMS account as an Administrator or Instructor, go to Courses, open a course with a test unit, and click Edit course.
2. Point to a test unit in your course and click the vertical ellipsis icon (⋮) (1), then click Test options (2).
3. A drawer will open on the right-hand side of the screen. Select the Weight tab (3).
4. You will see a list of the test questions. Each question is followed by a drop-down list with numbers from 0 to 20. From that list, set a weight for each question (4).
Note: Question weights aren't supported for randomized questions. |
