TalentLMS lets you share specific courses through a public URL. When public sharing is enabled for a course, users can access it without logging in first.
If the course is also available through the course catalog for non-registered users, it appears with the Try it for free indication when viewing its summary and details. This allows visitors to open the course, go through its content, and decide whether to register afterward so their progress can be saved.
| Note: Public sharing is available only on paid plans. |
The Try it for free indication appears when:
- Public sharing is enabled for the course
- The course catalog is visible to non-registered users
- The course does not have a price.
Before enabling public sharing for a course, make sure that the course catalog is available to non-registered users as described in this article.
How to enable public sharing for a course
To enable public sharing for a course, follow these simple steps:
1. Sign in to your TalentLMS account as an Administrator or Instructor and go to Courses (1).
2. Locate the course you want to update and click Edit (2).
3. Click the gear icon (3) to open Course options and, in the drawer that opens on the right side of your screen, navigate to the Availability (4) tab.
4. Under the Public sharing field, toggle Enable public sharing (5) to make your course public.
5. Don’t forget to click Save (6) to apply your changes.
A public URL (7) is generated, which can be used by registered or non-registered users. Anyone with the public URL can access and complete the respective course. You can share this link via email or messaging.
What non-registered users see
Once configured, non-registered users who visit your external catalog can select and view the public course. After selecting it, they will see the Try it for free (1) button.
Non-registered users provided with the public link are allowed to complete the course anonymously. When the course ends, users are prompted to sign up if the system allows new registrations so that their course progress is recorded. If they do not register, their progress is not tracked.
If a public course includes an ILT (Instructor-Led Training) session, users accessing it through the public link cannot register for the session anonymously. They must first sign up and enroll through your portal, as ILT session registration is available only to enrolled users.
| Note: To disable public sharing for a course, go back to the course’s Availability settings, switch off Enable public sharing, and click Save. Once disabled, the course will no longer be public. |
