Learning Paths in TalentLMS let you bundle courses into structured sequences, helping Learners build skills and progress toward specific goals. Whether you want to improve course completion rates, guide users through your platform, or award certificates upon milestone achievements, Learning Paths give you the tools to design a seamless learning journey.
| Note: Learning Paths are available on the Grow plan and above. Grow accounts can create up to 5 learning paths, while Pro and Enterprise accounts have no limit. Learning Paths are not available on the Free or Core plan. |
To create a Learning Path:
1. Sign in to your TalentLMS account as an Administrator or Instructor and go to Learning paths (1) from the left-side menu.
|
Note: Any SuperAdmin or Administrator with the Learning paths permission can view, create, update or delete Learning Paths. |
2. Click Add learning path (2).
3. Type a name (3) for your path.
4. Upload an image (4) for your path.
5. Add a description (5) of up to 5000 characters.
6. (Optional) Use the ✨ (6) icon to generate an image and description using AI.
7. Click Add course (7) to choose from your existing course list.
8. Select one or more courses and click Add to learning path (8).
| Note: Learning Paths can include up to 40 courses. |
9. (Optional) Organize your courses into sections by clicking the quote icon ( “ ) to add a new section title (9).
10. Drag and drop courses (10) into the desired order or section.
You can create a sequence of related courses, organize them into sections when needed, and adjust their order to reflect your training objectives.
| Note: Add more courses by clicking the + (11) icon. Remove courses anytime, by hovering over them and selecting the relevant option. |
| Note: You can create a Learning Path while logged under a particular branch to make it branch‑specific. A Learning Path created on a branch can still be managed from the main domain, and can also be assigned to other branches later. Read below for more information on Learning Paths and branches. |
To configure Learning Path settings:
Click the gear icon (1) at the bottom of the path editor to open the Learning path options drawer.
Info tab:
- Activation status (1): Toggle on to publish your path and allow enrollments.
- Code (2): Add an internal identifier (e.g., "01. Sales Onboarding").
- Category (3): Assign a category to organize related paths.
Limits tab:
- Time (1): Set a number of days for learners to complete the path after enrollment.
- Access retention (2): Let learners access the content after completion by enabling this option.
Completion tab:
- Courses completion order (1): Show courses in sequential or free order.
- Completion rules (2): Choose to complete the path when all, a percentage, or specific courses are completed.
- Certificate (3): Assign a certificate that learners receive upon completion.
| Note: At this time, certificates have a fixed duration of "forever". More options may become available in the future. |
Click Save (4) to apply your settings.
To enroll users in a Learning Path:
1. Back to the Learning Path editor, click the Users (1) icon.
3. Click Enroll to learning path (2).
4. Search for and select users to enroll (3).
Enrolled users will now see the Learning Path under My Training.
| Note: Right now, Learning Paths can only be assigned manually to Learners by Admins and Instructors. Learning Paths won’t show up in the Course Catalog, so Learners can’t acquire them on their own. |
| Note: Upon assignment to a Learning Path, users are enrolled in all the individual courses of the path in question. A user’s role on learning path/course assignment (Learner/Instructor) is determined by the default role of their user type. Updating the user’s role in the learning path will not update their role in the individual courses. |
To manage existing Learning Paths:
1. Go to the Learning Paths (1) page.
2. Use the grid or list view (2) to browse all paths.
From here, you can:
- Preview/Edit (3) a path, and assign it to Users and Branches.
- Delete (4) a path.
- Sort and filter (5) by name, code, category, number of courses, and more.
- Add a new learning path (6).
|
Note: Deleting a Learning Path only removes the path. Courses inside the path remain available. |
Assigning Learning Paths to Branches
TalentLMS lets you assign Learning Paths to branches, to allow your branch Administrators to manage them.
To do so:
1. Go to the Learning Paths (1) page.
2. Use the grid or list view (2) to browse all paths.
3. Click on a Learning Path (3) to view and configure its assigned users and branches.
4. You will land on the Learning Path’s Users tab. In this tab, you can add or remove users from the path. Switch to the Branches (4) tab.
5. From here, click Add to branch (5).
6. In the drawer that appears, select one or more branches (6) to assign the Learning Path.
| Note: When you assign a Learning Path to a branch, the Learning Path’s courses will be automatically assigned to the branch as well. The courses will be visible in the branch’s Course Catalog individually too, unless you hide them from each course’s settings. |
| Note: If you create a Learning Path while logged in a branch, it will be automatically assigned to that branch. You can still manage it from the main domain too, and even assign it to other branches later. |
Removing Learning Paths from Branches
When you unassign a Learning Path from a branch, a pop-up window will appear, asking you if you wish to remove the Learning Path’s courses from the branch as well.
- Click Remove (1) to unassign the courses from the branch along with the Learning Path.
- Alternatively, click the arrow (2) button next to it, and select Remove but keep courses (3). This way, the Learning Path will be unassigned from the branch, but the courses will remain available to the branch Admins and the branch’s Course Catalog.
