TalentLMS has upgraded its user interface with a modern look and improved content development tools. However, due to differences in how the new and legacy interfaces handle content creation, Instructors cannot edit content created in one interface with the other. To resolve this, TalentLMS provides a content conversion feature, ensuring seamless content management and editing.
Conversion Steps
Follow the steps below for a smooth transition of your current content to the new TalentLMS interface:
1. Sign in to your TalentLMS account as an Administrator or Instructor and go to Courses (1).
2. Choose to edit (2) a course that has units created in the legacy interface.
3. Select the unit (3) you want to migrate.
4. A banner at the top of the page will indicate this was created in the legacy interface. Click Convert Unit (4) to begin conversion.
5. In the pop-up, click Convert Unit (5) to confirm your action and be able to work on this unit from the new interface from now on.
After conversion, you can edit the unit in the new interface but not in the legacy interface.
Note: Some content or files might not migrate, and there is a possibility of data loss. It’s recommended to create a copy of the course/unit by cloning it first and testing the migration. |
General rules
Here are some basic rules to better understand how content will be migrated:
- Content Rules: Only the first embedded file relevant to the unit type (video, document, etc.) is retained. Other files will be removed.
- Text Placement: Any text associated with iframes or files will be placed either above or below the iframe/file.
- Embedded Media: All iframes with URLs (YouTube, Prezi, etc.) are retained. Invalid iframes will be replaced with a plain iframe unit.
- SCORM/xAPI/CMI5: These content types do not need migration as they are unaffected by the interface change.
- Multiple files in one unit: Only the first embedded file is kept, others are removed.
- Tests and Surveys: Questions can be edited, and any embedded videos will still be present.
- External URLs and iFrames: All external URLs and iFrames are retained, regardless of their frequency in the unit.
