With Video units in TalentLMS, you can add video-based learning content to your courses quickly and easily. Videos can help you present information in a more engaging way, explain complex topics visually, or guide learners through step-by-step material.
You can create a Video unit by uploading a file from your device, adding a YouTube video, selecting a video that already exists in the same course, or recording a new one with your camera or recording your screen.
| Note: Vimeo videos can’t be added through video units. To include a Vimeo video in your course, add it through a Web content unit instead. Before doing so, make sure the video’s privacy settings in Vimeo allow for external sharing or embedding. |
Add a Video unit
To add a Video unit to a course:
1. Sign in to your TalentLMS account as an Administrator or Instructor.
2. Go to Courses (1) and edit (2) the course you want to update.
3. Click Add (3).
4. From the Standard content section, select Video (4).
Choose the video type
After selecting Video, choose how you want to add your video.
You can choose one of the following options:
- YouTube: Add a YouTube video by searching for it or pasting its URL.
- Upload video: Upload a video file from your device.
- Select a course file: Reuse a video that has already been added to the same course.
- Record video: Record a new video using your camera.
- Record screen: Record your screen and add the recording as a Video unit.
Configure Video unit options
After adding a Video unit, you can configure its settings through the unit options. To open them, go to the course that contains the Video unit, click the three dots next to the unit (1), and select Unit options (2).
From the Unit option, you can define how learners complete the unit and configure how the video behaves during playback.
Complete unit
Use the Complete unit (1) setting to define how learners complete the Video unit.
You can choose one of the following completion methods:
- With a button: Learners complete the unit by clicking the completion button.
- After a period of time: Learners complete the unit after spending a specific amount of time on it.
- With a question: Learners complete the unit after answering a question.
| Note: When a period of time is selected, you can set a custom time limit or synchronize the timer with the video duration. The maximum time limit that can be set is 172,800 seconds or 48 hours. |
Video options
In the Video options section, you can configure the video playback settings (1).
You can:
- Enable Autoplay to start the video automatically when learners open the unit.
- Enable Synchronize timer with video to match the completion timer with the video duration.
- Enable Auto-pause video when changing tab to pause the video when learners switch to another browser tab.
- Enable Show playback speed option to let learners adjust the video playback speed.
- Enable Show captions to display captions during the video.
Captions
If you enable Show captions, you can add subtitles to the Video unit. You can either upload a captions file or generate captions automatically with AI. After adding or generating captions, select the file you want to use from the Captions file dropdown.
Poster image
You can also choose to use a poster image to add a custom poster image for the video. The poster image is displayed before the video starts playing.
