TalentLMS lets you create Custom Reports to narrow results to specific users and focus your reporting on key stats and attributes.
Custom reports can show results for users only, or for both users and courses.
When the report type (1) is set to Learning progress (2), the output shows the relation between users and courses, based on the rules you set.
When it comes to courses, the results can include courses that:
- Are determined automatically by the system (System decides for learning progress)
- Belong to specific branches selected by the Administrator
- Belong to specific categories selected by the Administrator
- Belong to specific groups selected by the Administrator
- Are part of a specific list of courses selected by the Administrator
This article outlines how the System decide for learning progress (3) option works across different scenarios.

Note: The rules used to determine the users included in your report follow these principles: • Each report can include up to five rules. In a branch, each report can include up to four rules. • Rules are combined using a logical AND, meaning that all rules must be met. • Multiple values within a single rule are combined using a logical OR, meaning that any of the specified values can apply. |
Users
Rule: Have the course X
Output: Shows users assigned to Course X, and their progress in this course only.
Rule: Do not have the course X
Output: Shows users not assigned to Course X, and their progress in all assigned courses.
Rule: Have completed the course within a period of time
Output: Shows users who completed any course within the time frame, and the courses they completed.
(e.g. If the rule is set to “Have completed a course between April 1 and April 30”, and John Doe completed the course Security Training during that period, he will be included in the report. However, the report will display all courses John Doe has completed, not only those completed within the specified time frame.)

Output: Shows users who received certifications in the time frame, and the courses they were awarded for.

Users with no course assignments won’t appear in the report.

Rule 1: Have the course X
Rule 2: Have completed the course within a specific period of time
Output: Displays the progress in course X for users who have completed any course within the selected time period.
(e.g. If course X is “Compliance Training” and the selected period is April 1 to April 30, then any user who completed any course during that period will be included in the report. For those users, the report will display their progress in “Compliance Training”, even if they did not complete that specific course within the selected time frame.)
| Note: Although the rule is phrased as “Have completed the course within a specific period of time”, the system checks whether the user has completed any course within the selected time period. |
