TalentLMS offers powerful AI features to enhance the learning experience. In this article, we will look at the AI Coach: An AI-powered assistant designed to help learners better understand course content and engage more actively with training material.
Note: The AI Coach is available on all Pro and Enterprise plans, as well as during the Premium trial.
Permissions and setup
To enable the AI Coach feature and make it available to Learners, first, make sure the following settings are configured in your portal:
1. Enable AI features in your portal settings. See here for the steps.
2. Ensure the relevant user type permissions are enabled:
- Go to Account & Settings > User types and edit the Instructor-Type role for the target user type(s). Make sure the following permission is enabled:
Instructor > AI > Courses > Coach (1)
- Then, edit the Learner-Type role, and confirm the same for the permission:
Learner > AI > Courses > Coach (2)
How to activate (or deactivate) the AI Coach for a course:
Note: For newly created courses, the AI Coach option is active by default.
1. Sign in to your TalentLMS account as an Administrator or Instructor.
2. Go to the Courses (1) page and click Edit (2) next to the course you want to update.
3. In the course editor, go to Course options (3) > Info (4).
4. Toggle the Activate Coach (5) option on or off and click Save (6) to save your changes.
Note: The AI Coach is available in Content, Video, Audio, Document, and TalentCraft units, but only for uploaded files. For instance, the Coach will work for video units that consist of videos you’ve uploaded to TalentLMS, but will not work with video units that utilize YouTube videos. For videos, the extracted text is taken only from the audio part, not from any text shown in the video.
How Learners use the AI Coach
Once enabled, Learners can access the AI Coach while taking their course by entering a supported unit and clicking the Coach (1) button.
The Coach offers four options to assist learners:
A. Explain simply (1): Provides an easy-to-understand summary of the unit's content.
B. Summarize key points (2): Generates a list of the most important takeaways from the unit.
C. Practice questions (3): Creates multiple-choice questions based on the unit material.
Note: If there’s one correct answer, options appear with radio buttons (circles). If there are multiple correct answers, options appear with checkboxes (squares).
D. Ask a question (4): Allows Learners to type their own question. The AI provides an answer based on the content of the unit.
Note: Questions unrelated to the unit content will not receive an answer.
